File:2010-5622 DANGEROUS DRIVER CAUSES MAJOR DAMAGE
February 8, 2010.
An impaired driver caused over $25,000 in damage to five cars in a spate of crashes involving parked cars yesterday.
At around 11:00 a.m., witnesses heard the sound of tires screeching and observed a Blue-Grey older pickup rocket into the parking lot of the Senior's Centre on Water St. The pickup slammed into a parked blue pickup truck before backing up and ramming into a white sedan parked in a handicap spot. The suspect vehicle then accelerated towards two people, who were walking to their parked car. The truck veered away at the last second and smashed into three more parked vehicles before leaving the parking lot at a high rate of speed.
The suspect vehicle then parked across from the RCMP Detachment on Doyle Ave, where police were advised, by a witness, of what had happened. The 42 year old Kelowna resident, Andrew PEEL was arrested and investigated for Driving while Impaired. He was brought before a Justice who remanded him, in custody, to appear in Kelowna court today.
He has been charged with Impaired Driving, Refuse to provide a Breath Sample and Dangerous Driving. PEEL is known to police for Criminal Code related issues.
